Trust Yourself: What Self-Trust Really Means (and Why It Might Be the Missing Piece in Your Moderation Journey)

If you’ve ever said, “I know better... so why don’t I DO better?”—you’re not alone.

For so many women (especially sensitive, high-achieving, perfection-prone ones), the real issue isn’t knowing what to do. It’s trusting ourselves enough to actually do it. And that’s where today’s ShameOver podcast guest, Emily Romero, comes in hot.

Emily is a former somatic trauma therapist turned author of the transformative book "Trust Yourself." In this episode, we explore how self-trust isn’t just a fluffy concept — it’s a practical, powerful tool for healing trauma, regulating your nervous system, and building a life you don’t feel the need to numb from.

What We Talk About:

Emily breaks down her Self-Trust Model, which includes:

  • 💬 Radical honesty (even when it's uncomfortable)

  • 🤝 Keeping promises to yourself (yes, even the small ones)

  • 🧠 Nervous system regulation (because no one makes great decisions when dysregulated)

  • 🌱 Self-knowledge (the kind that goes deeper than any personality quiz ever could)

These pillars don’t just help you feel better — they help you break free from patterns like overdrinking, overthinking, overgiving... and underliving.

Whether you’re exploring mindful drinking, navigating motherhood, or just trying to feel more like you again, this conversation is full of lightbulb moments and gentle truths that hit right in the gut (and the heart).

Here’s a taste of what we cover:

  • How trauma messes with our ability to trust ourselves

  • Why nervous system health is everything (especially for HSPs)

  • What to do if your inner critic is LOUD

  • How to rebuild trust after years of self-abandonment

  • The connection between shame, overdrinking, and healing

  • Why self-trust is the foundation for moderation

This episode is for the woman who wants to stop starting over every Monday. Who wants to drink less without white-knuckling her way through life. Who’s ready to go deeper, not harder.

Because drinking less isn’t just about willpower — it’s about what’s underneath.
