I completed Daily Check In!

We’re visiting John’s 82 year old sister. It was a one-day road trip, about 11 hours, including stops.

I really struggled with the idea of being here for 4 full days plus the 2 days of travel. There’s so much to do at home before our BIG road trip back home to South Carolina and I will have a house guest for about 10 days from the minute we arrive back home in Idaho. 😞 I will need to be at my best efficiency and that sounds very hard to me in my current mood and low energy. BUT I will do it.

Just thinking about Joan’s life is both an inspiration AND it makes me feel tired 😕 She still manages a small ranch❗️She’s in the middle of all that goes along with a big summer garden — corn 🌽 , tomatoes 🍅 , several types of squash and beans, several types of berries 🍓 🫐 and fruit 🍎 🍐 to name a few of the delights.

She told us about their process — she shares the garden and orchard with neighbors (who are also getting up there in years) — of picking pears. “I can still get on a ladder you know 🪜

I take the middle of the tree, Walt manages the outer part, and Sylvia gets what she can from the ground and we hand our buckets down to her.”

Wow 😮

She has only one horse now — he’s 38 and going blind, two rescue goats 🐐 🐐 , and an overly energetic blue heeler dog, still very puppyish and needs a lot of attention and exercise.

She’s so active, on committees at church, volunteers at the soup kitchen and various community outreaches, helps others. Again I say, just thinking about her life makes me tired 🥱

And now I have to live it for four days. Of course, I can reframe it to say, “I GET TO live it for four days.”

It’s beautiful here❣️

The problem is that I’m already tired❗️I mean, more like depressed, and it’s a bit overwhelming because I know I will be doing everything I am capable of — which will be a lot.

She has a long To Do list for John and will be out with him getting him going on things like repairing fences and digging things and fixing waterfalls and repairing farm equipment.

Of course, that’s wonderful that he is here to help — that’s why we came (and to see her and visit, of course), buuuut, I will be picking produce, washing, preparing them, and the meals, most likely. It sounds so whiney❗️It’s all a great blessing and the work is rewarding and the fruits of the labor are delicious 😋 It’s just that, my low mood makes it difficult 😣

AND (whine whine whine) it’s all vegetarian, low-protein, high-carb food and I had just been pretty successful and diligent getting back to the low-carb lifestyle the past couple of weeks.

Maybe all this wholesome food and active life will make me feel better 😃

I’m definitely up for that possibility❣️
